The Lace Alumitone Deathbucker Pickup

Having kindly sent us this pickup for review, Lace can now boast a great review from TopoftheOx of the Alumitone Deathbucker. As you will know, not every product we review gets great marks but this rather good looking pickup is ranking rather well for us. I'd like to clarify that as an independent reviewer of gear we do not benefit from writing good reviews of gear such as this one.
Assuming you are not entirely happy with your pickups and you have the compatability in your guitar to either replace or add a humbucker you may want to think about a straight upgrade. Lace have released the Deathbucker Alumitone that we introduced into a mid range Highway Stratocaster by replacing its single humbucker. Although the pickups on the Strat were perfectly fine for most guitar players our ears could, without question tell the difference. The Alumitone Deathbucker had superior output at both the top and bottom end.
The swap was straight forward and took less than 1 hour from start to finish and for that little investment of time you get a lot more volume and bags more bottom end. We heard little or no buzz in the various settings and volumes we tried that could not be put down to the amp itself. The lace wiring schematics can be obtained online.
Best for rock
The pickup in our opinion is most suited to the hard rocker and metal guitarist although playing through the clean channel at high volumes really added to the crunchy bluesy tone you get from driving a valve amp.
What we think
In summary, if you are looking to upgrade and you love to rock out then this is likely the right pickup for you. It not only sounds great but looks the part and you'll be the envy of other guitarists still hunting that killer rocking tone.
Based on our tests we would like to rank the various aspects of the pickup separately
Appearance : 5/5 Star
Value for money : 5/5 Star
Ease of installation for the average player : 3/5 Star
Enhancement of tone : 4/5 Star
Average 4.25 / 5 Star
